Disable Guest OS Storage Recommendations

Hi,
Currently running a trial and I'm wondering if I can disable everything going red in the dashboard just because the guest os is overallocated storage wise.

We will probably decide to never 'solve' this 'problem' because it takes too much work (700+ VMs mixed Linux and Windows).

Also because we want to use the product to improve visibility of 'real' issues, we'd like to prevent everything being red because of the above.

    Hello,

Yes, I've seen that same concern with a couple of other customers. Product management is aware of these sorts of dilemmas. In the meanwhile, I'd recommend going into Settings > Thresholds and changing the thresholds for virtual machine storage to 99% - that will help take the edge off.

  • Just to clarify:
Are you looking to clear up recommendations shown on the Current Bottlenecks view? Or within the Optimizer's Rightsizer for storage?

@Jonathan that doesn't seem to help.

    @Brad Rightsizer.

It's coming from: vOPS Dashboard->vScope Dashboard->Efficiency ..which pulls it's info from Rightsizer I guess.

This issue is pretty important to us.
I believe it is essential that the dashboard view can tell us what we consider important or otherwise it's information will be ignored. And because we're evaluating tools based mainly on their ability to provide us with a more efficient view of issues/developing issue than vCenter.

Aha! This is why I asked. :)
When in Rightsizer, the efficiency vScope will very often show a large amount of red due to oversized guest storage. If you're on version 4.5 or newer of vOPS, we have added in a section called "Rightsizer Constraints" where you can define parameters around the recommendations that the product makes. This includes excluding storage recommendations entirely, and thereby clearing up the vScope efficiency map.
Right-click to create a new configuration group as shown:

Add the portion(s) of the infrastructure where you want the exclusion set, and then set the config group to not show recommendations for guest storage:

Now when you go back to your Efficiency vScope map, you will see a lot more green!

Much better. I guess this was somewhere in the manual which of course I never read.

    Thanks for the help!
